National Bike Week, runs this week and celebrates cycling. The week is a chance to look at the many benefits of riding a bike for you and the community around you.
As the heart of the Edmonton Community, we were keen to support this annual event and encourage more people to discover the joys of riding a bike.
Therefore we have installed a free to use bike repair pump so that anyone using their bike in and around the centre that needs a quick bike fix can repair it easily and stress-free. The bike pump has been installed to celebrate Bike Week, but will be a permanent fixture at the shopping centre.
These last few years we have seen an increase in the number of people using bikes, which is fantastic! We want to make sure using a bike is as simple as possible for everyone, so having the repair pump in the centre will mean there is less worry when using your bike.
In addition, they have installed a bike wall next to their bike racks, by North Square. The wall includes some top tips and fun facts about cycling, plus some quizzes for the younger shoppers to enjoy and get them talking about bikes.
We hope that the bike wall will catch the attention of visitors to Edmonton Green and encourages them to think more about the benefits of riding a bike, not just for their health but for the environment too.
We are working in partnership with Enfield Council to host their regular second-hand bike markets. The bike markets are run with Peddle My Wheels and are a great opportunity to try and buy an affordable pre-loved child or adult bike. All bikes are serviced to ensure they are safe and roadworthy.
If you have a bike that you have outgrown or no longer want, Peddle My Wheels will service and sell it on your behalf. So you can earn a little money and provide more affordable bike stock for your community.
At each of the bike markets, there will also be a Dr Bike on hand offering free bike checks and repairs. The next bike market in Edmonton Green takes place on Saturday 6th August, from 10am – 4pm in The Concourse near Lidl.
