Thousands are expected to turn to The Salvation Army for help this Christmas and Edmonton Green Shopping Centre is supporting the charity’s local Present Appeal.
Shoppers are being encouraged to purchase an extra gift while they are out shopping to donate to a child, family or individual who are facing hardships this year.
Items on the present appeal list include toys from aged 0–11 years, toiletry gift sets for teens, non-perishable food items such as tinned goods, rice and pasta, as well as some festive sweet treats.
Dawn Roden, Captain of Edmonton Salvation Army, says she is delighted at the shopping centre’s support.
She said: “After a difficult year, The Salvation Army Edmonton and Edmonton Green Shopping Centre want to reach out to the people in the Edmonton community who are suffering the most and bring joy and hope into their lives this Christmas. Even the smallest of donations makes a big difference.
“It is the first bit of help we have received in a long time and we are so excited that we will be able to help so many more families this Christmas. I would like to thank both the shopping centre and the community for support their Christmas.”
The Salvation Army Edmonton help over 250 people in the local community each year, whether it be a family struggling to feed their children or an older person suffering from loneliness and isolation.
Rebecca Bird, Retail Manager at Edmonton Green said: “There will be many people facing poverty this year due to losing their jobs and livelihoods.
“Despite the ongoing pandemic, The Salvation Army is battling on to deliver Christmas and we are delighted to be able to help raise the profile of the Present Appeal and help as many people as possible by becoming a drop off point for new and unwrapped gifts.
“As a shopping centre who puts the community at the heart of everything we do, we are trying to support as many local good causes as we can this winter and as always, we greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity of our shoppers.”
People can drop off their gift donations at the Edmonton Green Management Office, located on the upper floor of Market Square, Monday – Saturday between 9am – 5pm
